Fancy adding a message to your wardrobe? Seen some sassy vegan slogans that you want to wear load and proud? Craving nods of approval from fellow vegans on the street? You’ve come to the right post – I’m going to share the best vegan apparel available here in the UK.
Perfect for if you want something a little more sweet and girly. Jade is a vegan blogger, total dog lover and has launched her own compassionate clothing line where she donates 5% of her profits to animal charities. Her slogan tops have great spins for any vegans, pet lovers or yogis. I love her ‘Namaste in with my cat’ design.
Are candles vegan? Not always – they can contain beeswax or stearic acid (usually from animal fat). Don’t worry though, there are plenty of vegan-friendly candles out there so you won’t have to miss out on burning any of your favourite scents.
These gorgeous tin candles are really well scented and make fantastic gifts so I was super happy to hear that Lily Flame are vegan-friendly.
When contacted I received the following response: ‘Our candles are made using 65% Paraffin wax, 29% vegetable triglycerides (fats) to make the wax softer and 6% perfume. Our candles do not contain any animal products and we do not test them on animals.’
Mooshies is the burger bar you’ve been waiting for. With four delicious burgers on the menu, a good selection of sides and vegan booze available this place has found it’s space in London’s famous Brick Lane. Roughly half of the menu is available as gluten free, appealing to the GF vegans. Whilst the burgers are incredible, it’s the guilty-pleasure vegan cheese sticks which will keep me coming back.
The nights are getting darker, the leaves are changing colour and the winds getting chillier – we must be in Autumn. Whilst I’m sad to see summer go, I’m quite excited to get my jumpers out and start sipping on lattes. Below are my autumn essentials:
I absolutely love this scent. It’s deliciously warming, comforting, sweet and sensual. Made with cardamom oil, rose oil, cocoa, oudh oil and cinnamon this is truly the perfect accompaniment to autumn jumpers and chilly mornings. If you’ve been looking for a new fragrance for the new season this is it.
This Fresh Orange Body Mousse (availablehere) smells incredibly citrus and leaves your body feeling fresh. Softly uplifting, it’s wonderfully relaxing to massage this into your body whilst inhaling and exhaling slowly and deeply. Take your time to focus on each limb and rub the mousse onto your skin in circular movements. This is best used on warm, wet skin – so pause your shower once your pores have opened up and give your body the time and attention it deserves.
Nothing gets me in the mood for sweet potatoes quite like the start of Autumn. Sweet potatoes are great because they are cheap, easily available, tasty and really good for you. They’re great for your immune system as they contain good amounts of vitamin A, iron and potassium. They’re high in dietary fibre which aids digestion and can help with weight loss. I’ve sourced together some of my favourite recipes which will hopefully inspire you to cook more with sweet potato.
Curries are one of the easiest ways to introduce sweet potatoes into your diet. This one pot curry is nice and simple yet full of flavour. This recipe is totally popular with omnivores as well as vegans – great for impressing friends!
The Viva! Vegan Festival London had it all: great vegan food, clothes, beauty and homeware. I’d always recommend going to these vegan events as you get tonnes of vegan retailers under one roof where you can sample their products and nab a bargain.
This month I’m celebrating ten years vegan! When I turned vegan back in 2007 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was still out in the cinemas, Crank That Soldja Boy was the track of the summer and Britney was shaving off her hair. Yeah, it was a long time ago.
A lot has changed: no one knew what a vegan was, everyone was scared I’d turn anaemic and all I could eat at restaurants was a plain salad and chips. Flash forward ten years and vegan is everywhere! Restaurants and cafes proudly brag about their plant based, dairy free dishes and we’re all over magazines and chat shows. We’ve proven that we aren’t just a fad nor a trendy diet but that we’re a passionate, achievable lifestyle that’s here to stay.
To celebrate my ten years of vegan, I’ve thrown together a giveaway on my @veganmakeupuk instagram with donations from Club Organix, Eden Perfume, So Eco Brushes and Less is More.
Beauty boxes are a beautiful thing. They’re becoming increasingly popular, as we prove to love having surprise boxes filled with beauty treats delivered to our door. These boxes typically contain a good mixed of new brands and old favourites, as well as guaranteeing a bargain.
Best of all, us vegans don’t have to miss out. I’ve collected together some of the best vegan beauty boxes out on the market. These are particularly perfect for new vegans that are trying to veganise their makeup bag, as you can try a lot of brands without spending a fortune.
Discount code: VOBBOX15 – save 15% off your whole order, including shop items.
So I’ve not been signed up to any beauty boxes for a while, as I keep clogging up my makeup bag with stuff I don’t really need. Whilst VOBEAUTY do a gorgeous surprise subscription box too (£15.95), what I love most about them is that you canbuild your own box. All their products are vegan and cruelty free, so you’re free to make your choices. You can choose to grab 3 (£10) or 5 (£15.95) products out of roughly 9-12 on offer, no subscription necessary. I find this gives me the opportunity to try out new brands at a good price, without getting stuck with products that I don’t want.
All slaughterhouses in England will be fitted with compulsory CCTV under plans unveiled on 11 August by environment secretary Michael Gove, as part of a series of measures to bolster welfare standards and enforce laws against animal cruelty. Ideally, we’d like slaughter houses to be a thing of the past but being able to track what goes on inside them is a huge step forward.
